Why sterilize 24 hours when it can be done in 4 minutes?
One of the major problems in non-sterilised oak is that wood damage will only be visible after a few years.
For sterilizing or conditioning the wood (to exterminate all insects, larvae, eggs, etc) the ISPM-norm indicates that the wood should be subjected to a temperature cycle of 56°C for 30 minutes.
In 2002 the Flemish government subscribed to an innovation study meant to examine the industrial feasibility as well as the added value of the killing of insects, larvae, eggs etc by means of microwaves.
